Set a target file size
7.5 MB for sharing. 900 KB for a sticker. Pick a target and let GifLoom try a bounded series of settings. The result tells you exactly where it landed.
Keep the reaction. Lose the extra megabytes.
Compress for Discord, Slack, email, and everywhere you share. GIF files never leave your browser.
No file uploads. No waiting in a server queue.
LITTLE TOOL. BIG RELIEF.
A little less file.
A lot more room to share.
7.5 MB for sharing. 900 KB for a sticker. Pick a target and let GifLoom try a bounded series of settings. The result tells you exactly where it landed.
A smaller frame has fewer dots to store. Keep the full picture while reducing its display width and height. The best balance is yours to choose.
Keep every frame, or trade some motion detail for a lighter file. Adjust the color palette as the finishing touch. Preview before you commit.
FROM TOO BIG TO GOOD TO GO
Drop a GIF into the box or choose one from your device. “Upload” here means opening it locally. GIF files never leave your browser.
Enter the file size you want, then select Compress GIF. For more control, adjust scale, frame rate, and color quality. Leave the target empty to use only your settings.
Compare the before and after sizes and watch the new animation. Check the target status, then download. Try another setting if you prefer a different balance.
KNOW BEFORE YOU SEND
A file attachment, an emoji, and a sticker can have different rules—even in the same app. These are sharing guidelines, checked against available official documentation on .
| Destination | Published limit | Try this target | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discord Free | 20 MB | 7.5 MB | Ordinary file attachments; official rules ↗ |
| Nitro Basic | 50 MB | 48 MB | Nitro offers 500 MB. This tool accepts up to 50 MB. |
| Slack | 1 GB | 5 MB | Ordinary file uploads ↗; emoji rules differ. |
| X / Twitter | 15 MB web 5 MB mobile | 4.5 MB | Animated GIF requirements ↗ |
| Varies by surface | Check first | GIF support and community rules vary. Check the post composer. | |
| Web & email | Provider dependent | 1–5 MB | A practical performance target, not a universal limit. |
| Check in-app | 900 KB | An optional starting point; not a verified sticker limit. |
Targets are GifLoom suggestions. Platforms can change their limits; the destination’s current rules take priority.
A great reaction should not need a second attempt. Discord’s published free attachment allowance is currently 20 MB, with 50 MB for Nitro Basic and 500 MB for Nitro. A 7.5 MB target is a conservative sharing choice—it is not Discord’s current free limit. Emoji and stickers have separate requirements.
For a 30 MB GIF, start here:
There is no single magic setting. Each method removes a different kind of detail.
| Method | What changes | The trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Scale | Reduces the width and height together | A smaller displayed image. Half the width and height means 75% fewer image pixels, not a guaranteed 75% smaller file. |
| Frame rate | Removes selected frames and carries their delay forward | Less smooth motion, with overall playback duration preserved. |
| Color quality | Uses a smaller color palette per frame | Fewer subtle colors; gradients may show bands. GIF’s LZW encoding itself is lossless. |
Start with scale. If the file still feels heavy, try fewer frames, then tune the colors. Actual savings depend on the image, motion, and how well the original was already optimized.
A GIF compressor makes a GIF use fewer bytes while keeping it in GIF format. GifLoom decodes the animation, combines its frame updates, and creates a new GIF using your chosen settings. Both the original and the result stay on your device.
File size measures storage; dimensions measure the displayed width and height. Reducing dimensions is one way to reduce file size, but the two goals are different. GifLoom’s scale control changes both sides together; a dedicated exact-dimension tool is planned for a later release.
Turning a GIF into MP4 or WebM changes the format. That may be useful for video-friendly destinations, but this tool keeps the output as a GIF. It does not convert your animation to a video or add a watermark.
One useful tool at a time. GIF compression is ready now; more local GIF tools are planned. There is no account or subscription to join.
A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING
It depends on the original’s artwork, motion, and existing optimization. Large animations with many colors often offer more room to reduce than simple, already-optimized GIFs. GifLoom shows the exact before and after byte sizes, and keeps the original if a new encoding would be larger.
Choose your GIF, enter 7.5 MB as the target, and select Compress GIF. This leaves room below an 8 MB requirement wherever you encounter one; Discord’s current published free attachment limit is 20 MB. Check the result’s actual size before sharing, because very small targets are not always achievable. Emoji and sticker rules are separate from attachment limits.
Choose the 1 MB preset and run the compressor. GifLoom tries progressively lighter settings, then reports whether the output is at or below 1,000,000 bytes. If the target is not reached, the smallest attempted result remains available to preview and download. A shorter source animation can help.
Set the unit to KB and enter 256. This requests a result at or below 256,000 bytes. Simple, short animations are the best candidates for this target, while detailed or long GIFs may not fit. Always inspect the preview for color and motion changes.
Enter 200 and select KB, then start compression. GifLoom will try to reach 200,000 bytes within its bounded attempts. That is a tight budget, so a smaller source or fewer frames may be needed. An unmet target is shown explicitly rather than labelled successful.
Reducing dimensions, dropping frames, and using fewer colors all trade some detail for fewer bytes. How noticeable that is depends on your GIF and settings. Compare the previews, and keep more frames or raise color quality if the result is too rough. No fixed quality or savings percentage is guaranteed.
GifLoom processes the full animation and preserves GIF’s on-or-off transparency. When frames are removed, their display time is carried into the remaining frames so playback does not unexpectedly speed up. Very short 0–10 ms source delays are normalized to 100 ms for browser-compatible playback. Preview the result, especially fine transparent edges after scaling.
The file is opened locally, with a 50 MB input limit. There are also limits of 16 million canvas pixels, 1,000 frames, and 80 million total frame pixels to keep memory use bounded. A small file can still contain a very large animation, so it may hit one of those limits. If it does, choose a shorter or smaller GIF.
GIF files never leave your browser during compression. The tool processes the file in local memory and does not store it in an account or upload it for processing. Optional site analytics run only with your permission; session recording is not loaded on this tool page. Read the Privacy page for hosting, analytics, and preference details.
This version processes one GIF at a time. Download the result, then remove the current file and choose the next GIF. Selecting a replacement cancels an active job and clears the old result. Batch compression is not currently available.
